[01:53:59] <MikeDebian> By the way, ffplay under Debian 10 (fresh install) is opening on a window with no top tab/bar, no max/min/close buttons. ffmpeg/ffplay version 4.1.6. What's wrong? how can I launch with the top bar/tab? The option -noborder is actually to hide such bar but I'm not using such option and still I'm getting this weird behavior. 909 [15:03:01] <HelloShitty> ratrace I'm getting that idea. However I didn't have any idea that things could be influenciated in such manner
[15:03:38] <HelloShitty> I'm asking in Clevo/Sage forums about if this BIOS is supposed to support Linux UEFI mode or not
[15:04:02] <HelloShitty> I mean, everything gets installed but then the boot doesn't work
[15:04:19] <HelloShitty> I entered a terminal while in UEFI mode
[15:04:34] <HelloShitty> And checked for blkid and mount output

[15:05:39] <jhutchins> HelloShitty: The problem is that there are actually no official standards for the BIOS, nor for UEFI. Some manufacturers implement it very badly.

[15:07:34] <HelloShitty> I guess this was what ratrace mentioned
[15:08:48] <jhutchins> I have an HP under the couch that grub can't quite understand the UEFI on.
[15:09:25] <jhutchins> Olnly slightly less useless in unbootable mode than with the HP Windows install complete with "let us reset all your custom settings" feature.

[15:16:36] <HelloShitty> When you press F2 or DEL or F10 or whatever at boot time
[15:16:41] <HelloShitty> You get into a menu
[15:16:45] <HelloShitty> How you call it?
[15:16:54] <HelloShitty> I use to call it the Bios menu
[15:17:23] <jelly> HelloShitty: can you put a bootable windows on it, then see what it put on the efiboot partition?
[15:17:25] <jhutchins> Well, it's a boot menu, and it should give you the option of UEFI if it's available, or the linux partition.
[15:17:55] <HelloShitty> I have a UEFI enable option
[15:18:41] <HelloShitty> But it is under a parent menu which needs to be set to Windows8 so that that child option of UEFI to be visible
[15:19:30] <HelloShitty> I mean, I have a Boot menu. Inside this Boot menu, I have an option called 'OS select'
[15:19:53] <jhutchins> Between UEFI and systemd I'm thinking of re-istalling DOS 3.5

[22:14:39] <sney> run 'fg' to undo your ctrl-z
[22:15:02] <sney> if you fg to a process that was killed it'll usually exit at that point
[22:15:07] <greycat> Well, you screwed up at least three ways. You send a SIGTERM to processes 9 and 15 for no reason. You tried to send a SIGKILL to some processes without every telling us why. And you randomly decided to omit syntax from an already EXTREMELY unwise kill command, randomly.
[22:16:02] <sney> neorpheus: also, don't @ people on irc, most clients ignore that kind of highlight
[22:16:33] <greycat> ctrl-z is the default tty binding for "suspend", which invokes the shell's job control to put your current foreground job into a suspended state, and give you back a shell prompt. Use 'fg' to bring it back to the foreground.

[22:29:11] <sney> and if you find yourself calling 'kill' directly and it doesn't immediately stop the problem process, you're barking up the wrong tree and need to go back to the drawing board. repeatedly spamming 'kill' is not something you do on a healthy system.
[22:30:10] <greycat> You start by stating what the problem is. If you feel the solution to this problem is "kill a process", then you run "ps" commands to see what the process's metadata is (state flags, amount of CPU used, etc.).
[22:30:39] <greycat> If the process is in state D for instance, there is no point trying to kill it. It's stuck in a kernel driver.
