[05:24:13] <Aurora_v_kosmose> Ah, that's unfortunate, but not unexpected.
[05:24:17] <somiaj> so the fact that it is in contrib, tells you that it meetds DSFG, but depends on stuff that doesn't.
[05:24:37] <Aurora_v_kosmose> I see
[05:24:47] <somiaj> (note if even a small part of the build depends on non-free stuff it will be put in contrib, virtualbox is the case here)
[05:25:23] <Aurora_v_kosmose> Is it guestadditions (which is proprietary and optional), or is even the rest of the software not buildable without non-free?
[05:25:26] <somiaj> virtualbox meets the DSFG, but the bios it uses (which is free) requires non-free software to build, so it cannot be built with purely free software, thus putting it in contrib.
[05:25:34] <Aurora_v_kosmose> Ah I see
[05:25:59] <somiaj> so debian requires that everything in debian main is fully buildable by using only software in debian main

[09:15:35] <sgo11> jmcnaught: Hi, this is a late reply. Thanks a lot for your message. I don't know if you still can remember or check what you posted. just FYI: I have solved the problem. xfce and debian 10 always set SSH_AUTH_SOCK to ssh-agent socket instead of gnome-keyring socket. So to make it work, I need 'export SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/run/user/1000/keyring/ssh' OR 'export $(gnome-keyring-daemon --start)' in .bashrc. Cheers.

[22:27:54] <shibboleth> ok and for the fifth time: never mind what the tv supports
[22:27:59] <shibboleth> i'm already ignoring edid
[22:28:17] <ueberall> dutchfish: Thanks, I will have a look at the wiki, then!
[22:28:18] <oiaohm> shibboleth: ignoring the edid does not stop the controller in the tv saying no.
[22:28:42] <shibboleth> is there a way to query the tv?
[22:29:04] <oiaohm> shibboleth: you need to know what that controller acceptable values are on what ports so you can graphic drivers manually.
[22:29:30] <oiaohm> shibboleth: that is normally get the specifications/manual and read them. Or depend on the edid to tell trueful information.
[22:30:15] <oiaohm> Basically when a tv/monitor does not tell trueful information by edid you have to get the paperwork about the monitor or be there for ever and day trying stuff until you get lucky.
