[23:35:44] <LeoNerd> 4.14.0-3-amd64 though I'm sure it's been doing this since many earlier versions... even down at the 3.x series
[23:35:58] <TheHeatPasteGuy> By transmission delays do you mean package drop?
[23:36:10] <dude42> annadane, protonmail was suprisingly easy to register, only a captcha required and it includes the ability to send emails. thanks for that !
[23:36:23] <LeoNerd> TheHeatPasteGuy: no, that's the weird thing. If I just leave a "ping" process running it never seems to /drop/ packets. They just get delayed. Massively so

[23:37:17] <LeoNerd> I compare ICMP sequence numbers generated by ping. I can see my laptop try to transmit them (according to tcpdump), 1, 2, 3, etc... then maybe 20 or 30 seconds later, the router starts receiving them. It replies, and those replies turn up quickly back at the laptop where ping starts printing them, quoting a roundtrip time around that 20 to 30 second mark

[23:37:42] <LeoNerd> Packets do /occasionally/ get lost, but quite rare. If nothing else is trying to transmit at the time then it's usually pretty reliable. Just very delayed
[23:38:02] <SuperTramp83> dude42: too bad you didn't go for cock.li. No captcha, no nothing, not even javascript is required. I'm disappointed.

[23:39:31] <TheHeatPasteGuy> The other devices you are using to connect to the ap are linux / debian machines as well?
[23:39:38] <LeoNerd> Not having any sort of radio tracer I can't really watch packets over the air, so I can't really see where the delay comes in, I just know it's somewhere after laptop's tcpdump sees the packet and before router's [which is another Debian Linux box attached to UniFi]

[23:41:10] <dracc> Wow, that's nothing I've ever heard about. Then again, I'm just a lowly hobbyist. :D
[23:41:18] <TheHeatPasteGuy> yeah bios flashing isn't something done that easily.
[23:41:48] <dracc> When there's a BIOS readily available it doesn't have to be that hard, though. :D
[23:42:32] <LeoNerd> OK well I could try that and then swap the card, see if that helps. If it doesn't, then what other ideas might come?
[23:42:32] <TheHeatPasteGuy> recently flashed coreboot on my t420. was a pain in the ass because the chip so hard to access
[23:42:53] <LeoNerd> Oh I've had the machine apart entirely many times. I replaced the heatsink/fan combination a few months ago.. much quieter now

[23:45:14] <TheHeatPasteGuy> would be a starting point
[23:45:23] <LeoNerd> TheHeatPasteGuy: It's *possible* but given I'm running 4.14.0-3 right now and it's been happening for .. maybe a year now, that does seem a chance of luck that it's just been fixed
[23:45:54] <hassoon> heck why do i get this error when i want to apt-get update, does the teaviewer repository in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/teamviewer.list represent an issue ?
